LCHF story: Lindha
You can hardly believe it’s the same person.
Here’s Lindha Vikström, a Swedish mother of two, with her story about how she cut her weight in halfwith LCHF:
The Email
forrásHi!I saw that you were looking for people who would want to share their story about a lifestyle change.I’ve always been a yo-yo dieter, down a lot in weight only to gain it all back later, and then some, every time.I started eating LCHF in March/April 2012, and have lost 154 lbs (70 kg) and my husband 88 lbs (40 kg). It took 18 months, and we have kept our weights since then without any problems, and we feel great and we get to feel satisfied.I attended the event Wellness Stockholm 2014 in May. I was invited by the LCHF club after having told them about my weight journey. I also met My Westerdahl, and had a nice chat with her. I never got the chance to come up to you, so I’ll say it now; it was a fantastic and inspiring lecture.I have my life back, have so much more energy, and am able to be more active with my kids now in a completely different way.Who am I, then? A married 42-year-old mother of two, who used to weigh 309 lbs (140 kg), but who today is at 154 lbs (70 kg).I’ve started a blog halvalindha.se/ [in Swedish, Google translation here], where you are welcome to read about my journey. It would be fantastic if you wanted to share my weight-loss journey with LCHF, and please feel free to link to my blog. I’m attaching a before and after picture that you can use (photo Kristian Pohl).I have to let you know something interesting – I tried on my wedding rings that I haven’t been able to wear in 15 years, and now they fit :).Sincerely,Lindha Vikström

LCHF story
Rheanna has lost an amazing 35.1lbs eating LCHF! These pictures show her progress from March 2015 to August 2015. The difference in her before and during photos is amazing! Just look at the glow in her face. At 5’6, She has gone from a size 16-18 down to a 12-14, lost 10 inches off her belly alone, and 38 inches total. She still has about 32 pounds to go to reach her goal, and we have not doubt that she will reach and maintain her goal weight.
Read her life changing story below:
I was a chubby child who went on my first diet at 8 years old, and have struggled with my weight my entire life since.
You name it, I’ve tried it. I’ve eaten too little, I’ve taken prescription diet pills, I’ve exercised excessively, I’ve starved myself, I’ve tried every fad/crash diet known to mankind. I’ve lost (and regained) hundreds of pounds in my 31 years. Like many overweight people, I was led to believe it was all about a lack of willpower, and that I was doomed to either be hungry – or heavy – forever.
After being diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance in 2013 at 29 years old, I realized something had to change. I was dieting and eating a low fat (high carb) diet and counting calories. I weighed 220 pounds but was losing basically no weight eating 1200-1300 calories a day. I was always hungry and felt deprived. My doctor recommended I try low carb, and I did. I felt amazing and the weight started to come off even though I wasn’t hungry and was consuming 400-500 more calories a day. But I fell off the bandwagon several times. I viewed it as a diet more than a way of life, and honestly I felt sorry for myself that I couldn’t just “eat what I wanted” like others could. I also had a lot of stress in my life, and I used it as an excuse, to be honest.
The last few years were rough for me. In 2009-2010, I was a single mom with a fussy baby, I worked 50 hours a week with no sleep for nearly a year, then I went back to finish my bachelor’s degree in 2010, and was a single mom with a part time job and a full time course load. I remarried in late 2011, but money was tight and I was still juggling a lot of roles. Taking care of myself just never seemed possible. I finished school in December 2013, earning my bachelor’s degree. In 2014 I started a new high-stress job that ended up being a terrible fit for me. For years, my self-care was always on the back burner. I know this is long, but I think a lot of women can relate to this, so I feel it’s worth sharing. I was to blame; my wonderful husband was willing to do whatever I needed to help me make time to care for myself, but I expended all my energy caring for everyone except myself. STOP DOING THAT, ladies. You are important, too!
So by spring 2015, I had changed jobs, we bought a house, we were settled with good careers, my daughter was 5 and thriving in preschool, and it finally seemed like the right time to take care of ME, to make myself a priority. I was obese, 230 pounds, with low energy, absolutely miserable in my own skin, had daily headaches, chronic stomach issues, near constant hypoglycemic symptoms, and constant hunger and cravings. I knew what I needed to do physically, but first had to change my mindset. I actually did some reading about food addiction and realized I had a true problem, an addiction even, with sugar. On 3/9/15, I committed to low carb and haven’t looked back. It just felt like this time I *had* to do it – for myself.
By mid July, I had lost around 22 pounds, but it was coming off very slowly. I felt really good, but was frustrated with the slow loss. I sought help in the comments section of LCHF Nation. The absolutely wonderful Elena took the time to message me and give me some ideas of where to start. I have since increased my fat intake from 50% to 70%-75%, lowered my carbs to around 20-25g net, and kept my protein at approximately 20% of my daily calories, which total 1600-1700, since my RMR is around 1650. In essence, I ate more calories, more fat, less protein, and less carbs! The last 10 pounds came off way quicker since making these changes and I’m forever grateful to Elena for taking time out to help me.
I signed up for the 8 day weight loss course and looked forward to those emails daily. I’ve recently added in intermittent fasting and only eat between noon and 8 pm each day. I eat at least 70% of my calories from fat. I try to walk more, and do some basic strength training 3x a week and cardio (recumbent bike) 3-4x a week too. I also drink 100+ oz of water a day. I now have loads of energy, no more stomach problems, headaches are very rare, no hunger, no hypoglycemia symptoms at all. Food no longer controls me and I have no desire to binge no matter how stressful my day is. I can watch others eat donuts and truly have no desire to eat them. It’s very liberating.
These pictures show my progress from March 2015 to August 2015. At 5’6, I’ve lost 35.1 pounds, gone from an 16-18 down to a 12-14, lost 10 inches off my belly alone, and 38 inches total. This is a way of life for me now, and I have no desire to go back to my old ways! I still have about 32 pounds to go to reach my goal, but just had to share how life-changing this has been for me so far! forrás

LCHF story: Derek
After 34 years of eating a Standard Aussie Diet, I reached my heaviest (recorded) weight of 143kgs. I had become a tired, cranky man. How Telaine put up with me I don't know.
I decided for my own health, to be the man I needed to be and to be here long term for my family that something needed to change, and NOW!
In September 2013 I began researching various diets, exercise programs and weight loss methods. I had tried so many in the past but my will power could only sustain me for so long. Inevitably I would end up throwing it all in and gaining back any weight lost along with interest. I was determined to find the best path to optimum health and weight loss. I decided I would not YoYo again. If I was to start a 'diet' it needed to be sustainable for life.
After much reading I decided a Low Carb High Fat diet made the most sense to my scientific brain. I went in 'whole hog' on Dec 30th, 2013 and expected great things, the results however even took me by surprise.
Within the first two weeks i had noticed major changes in my well being.
- I felt more focused and alert.
- I was able to sleep at night and wake rested and refreshed.
- Eczema had healed up.
- Heart burn and indigestion was gone.
- Dizzy spells stopped.
- My weight had begun to drastically reduce.
- Inflammation in my body had gone down.
- I was no longer angry.
- Generally I was feeling amazing!
I was so excited that this lifestyle really did everything I had read about and decided I wanted to help as many people as possible discover this way of eating. A health revolution to see every individual live to their health potential and really enjoy LIFE.
In March 2014 my beautiful girl decided (of her own accord) to join me on this adventure. I am so happy she did and am beyond proud of her transformation. Her support has made a world of difference to me and our family.
After 10 months eating and living an LCHF lifestyle I saw my weight drop below 100kgs for the first time in my adult life. I went from wearing 5XL - 7XL shirts down to being able to shop at regular stores and fit comfortably into a size Large.
Between Telaine and I we have now lost over 114kgs (250lbs) since our heaviest. And the weight has stayed off! Living LCHF keeps us healthy and full of energy.
I have never felt so energetic, healthy and alive in my life and I'm positive you too can experience success living an LCHF lifestyle. forrás

Low Carb High Fat story
"I am a mother of two beautiful boys, partner to Derek and have lots of beautiful, supportive friends. That said, I've spent the last 14 years of my life over weight. At my biggest official weigh-in I was 169kg. I was tired, depressed and sick all the time.
My solution was to stick my head in the sand. I decided it was easier to live in denial than to face the brutal truth: I WAS KILLING MYSELF!
Suffering from Type 2 Diabetes, my Blood Glucose Levels were regularly over 35mmol/L. I was insulin resistant, had inflammation of the liver, depression, anxiety, fatigue, headaches, extreme swelling, dizziness, panic attacks, vomiting, eczema, cushing syndrome was mentioned more than once (though I never followed through with regular doctor appointments to have it confirmed), as was irritable bowel syndrome.
I had been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder (a diagnosis that has now been reassessed and removed). The prescribed medication for this escalated all symptoms of the illnesses above.
I was booked in for weight-loss surgery, spent the two weeks leading up to it following the required pre-op diet (funnily enough it was ketogenic) and was then told my liver problems made the surgery too high risk. Looking back now, I am so grateful, but at the time it seemed to be my only hope.
In 2012 I started making small changes in my life and was able to slowly lose 30kg over the next year and a half in what I like to refer to as 'accidentally'. It was discovered my bipolar diagnosis was incorrect, and I was taken off the medication and started counseling.
We moved interstate, and I started to find quiter places I could go with less panic attacks. I was always so self-concious. I started to walk a tiny bit more, I ate a tiny bit less and a smart man named Derek gave me a goal. I got a horse that required physical care every day in a place where there was no one around. I had my 'space' to move my huge body and not feel judged and a reason to do it.
I was still sick but was slowly changing my life for the better and here is where our lives truly changed.
At the end of 2013, Derek began his Low Carb, High Fat journey without my support. High Fat??? I was a bitter, cynical and honestly a scared woman. I did want him to change and be happy, but I was worried about his health (heart attacks, cholesterol...oh yep I harped on at him). I was confused and afraid of the changes I started to see in him, but in awe at the same time.
Three months after watching his journey from the sidelines, seeing how he'd become obsessed with a lifestyle, and was discovering new levels of personal health and happiness I grew curious. He NEVER once suggested I tried it, he NEVER once tried to tell me why my porridge with banana and honey was wrong and he NEVER once snapped back at my cynical and negative comments.
It was the smartest thing he has ever done in our relationship and I believe it saved my life.
One day, after complaining and whining of how tired and hungry I always was, I took it upon myself to show curiosity to him and asked 'eating boiled eggs helps you when your tired and hungry hey?'. He smartly replied with a simple 'yep, it does'. No pressure or jumping on the chance to get me on board.
And so it started at the end of March 2014....my life really began. I ate an egg. One boiled egg started my journey and here I am today with a whole new life of health and happiness!
I am no longer on ANY diabetes medication.
My average Blood Glucose Level is now 4.4mmol/L... 100% from diet change.
No more medications AT ALL for any mental health or physical illness.
This is the happiest, healthiest and most energetic I have ever been. EVER!
I now have the energy and vitality to enjoy life and be the mother and partner my family deserve.
I know it can work for you too!

LCHF story
"I had the gastric sleeve surgery on March 18, 2013. My surgeon's instructions after was 70 grams of protein a day. Eat meat first, then veggies, and little to no bread, rice, pasta, etc. Due to my smaller stomach, I had to insure I got my nutrients, and he said the starchy stuff would fill me up too fast with no nutritional benefit. That's how I got into the low carb lifestyle. It's a way of life now. The surgery helped me, no doubt, but there's also no doubt the low carb lifestyle is what is keeping it off. Went to the doctor last week and all blood work was perfect. So all the low carb literature on chlosteral, etc is true. Here's a before and after. You can share if you want." forrás

Keto story: Zuzka
"I recently followed the Ketogenic diet (click on the link to learn more) for over 6 weeks and I wanted to give you guys my honest opinion and an overview of my own experience.
It wasn’t my first time doing Keto, however it was different from the first and second time I tried it. They say 3rd time is a charm, and it sure was this time around. Our bodies are really good at adapting and the more you do something, whether it be exercise or diet, your body becomes better and more efficient at dealing with the situation. In this case, I have noticed a huge difference in the rate that my body adapted to the high fat diet and using fat as a main source of energy, in comparison to my past 2 trials. It felt like my body was telling me: “oh, are we doing this again? I remember, and I can do better this time”. It took me only 3 days to get into Ketosis, however I was really diligent and followed strictly the jump start rules, I have posted for you guys.
The first 3 days I was peeing every 10 minutes like a 4 year old, and had to drink a lot of water not to become dehydrated. Some people experience headache during this time, but I was ready. I was drinking a lot of water, had salt if I started to feel tired (mostly in the form of home made chicken broth), and I supplemented with Pottasium and Magnesium.
After the first 3 days I have already noticed an increase of energy that lasted the entire day. I didn’t feel like I wished I could take a nap during the afternoon, and despite how busy I was, I didn’t feel overwhelmed (we were in the process of moving into our new home, and I have a lot going on with my book, supplements, clothing line, ZGYM, etc.). I noticed my body started to appear slimmer, because my body was no longer retaining water. I have also noticed I didn’t feel any stiffness in the mornings, and my flexibility had started to increase noticeably. The only problem was the lack of strength I felt during my workouts. After doing a single push up I felt like like I had already done 20 reps. It’s the weirdest feeling to feel exhausted like that after doing a beginner-style workout, when you know you’re in really good shape.
I did not have cravings for carbs or anything sweet and I wasn’t experiencing hunger the way I normally do. Not that I normally starve or something, but in Keto I was just not hungry for hours on end. I had to remind myself to eat.
During the 2nd week my frustration with strength and endurance continues, however I am slowly seeing an improvement. I exercise daily so I notice even the slightest change in my performance. After 10 days, my stamina was back to where it was when my body was using glucose as the main energy source. That’s when I knew my body had finally adapted and it felt amazing. I was utilizing all the fat I was eating to generate energy for my brain and muscle activity.
After the first few weeks, besides having more clarity and having a constant flow of energy, from the time I woke up until the time I went to bed (which I expected), I was taken by surprise when I got my period and didn’t have any cramps! Normally I suffer 2 days every month from really bad to sometimes debilitating cramps that I can’t deal with. This time however, without taking pain killers, I had no cramps! Even though I did notice my energy was lower, I didn’t feel as exhausted as I normally do during this time of month.
I went off Keto after 6 weeks, after we moved to our new house. I didn’t stop because I had some uncontrollable cravings but because I just simply wanted to enjoy my glass of wine in the evening watching the beautiful sunset from our new back yard, I wanted to enjoy a bowl of cherries while sitting by the pool, and I wanted to prepare delicious salads with juicy peaches which are currently in season. It’s just the romantic in me that wanted all those things.
I believe the Keto diet is an amazing sugar detox and it’s worth trying especially if you need that sustainable energy throughout the day. This is helpful if you need to be really focused on important projects for your job or school. Fat has been proven to be a far better quality fuel than glucose and even though it’s not as widely spread news yet, you are going to hear more and more people turning to Ketosis mainly for health and energy purposes.
Remember, you have to give yourself at least 2 weeks for a complete adaptation. Some people left comments saying that this diet can’t be healthy if it makes you feel like a crap at the beginning. Well, that’s not true. Remember, that your body doesn’t like change. If you have ever recovered from an addiction to any harmful substances like cigarettes, alcohol or drugs, you may recall the horrible feeling of withdrawal. Your body was not happy, when you tried to quit, you felt horrible, and this is exactly why so many people have a hard time quitting the unhealthy habits. Sugar is the unhealthy substance you’re trying to quit, when you go into Keto. Of course it’s not going to be pleasant to go through sugar withdrawal. I used to be a chain smoker, believe it or not. I remember the headaches, anxiety, moodiness and constant coughing each time I tried to quit. I gave up a few times and the cigarette made me feel good again. How is it possible that I didn’t feel better instantly when I stopped smoking if it’s so much healthier for me not to smoke? It’s because our bodies hate change which makes any adaptation period uneasy to deal with.
After 6 weeks I stopped doing Keto and went back to earning my carbs with my workouts. I’ve maintained that lifestyle for almost 8 years and I’ve felt great and have gotten great results. Although there were a lot of benefits to being in ketosis, you have to be very strict and I don’t think it’s for everyone, all the time. It’s fine to detox for periods of time but I personally prefer to control my carb intake and enjoy the foods I love on a regular basis. In a sense, I’m a carb addict that controls her intake. I’m all about owning it, instead of living in denial. I believe I can stay fit and healthy following this lifestyle and live a very long life.
Unless, I get some horrible disease like cancer, if that happens I’ll go back to ketosis long-term. Research shows that cancer cells can survive only off of glucose and that Ketogenic diet has the capability to starve those cancer cells and heal people. I’m wondering why this information is not spreading already like a wildfire… If giving up sugar can actually save your life, why aren’t there more programs out there and information to help people do it? Oh wait, are those expensive cancer treatments making a lot of money for the big companies? That makes sense then, let people use more drugs and put them through chemo rather than letting them know that there’s a more natural and completely holistic solution that might save their lives. Here’s a great article about Dr. Fred Hatfield who had only about 3 months to live before he got introduced to Ketogenic diet and starved those cancer cell f**kers. There’s no doubt in my mind that I would instantly stop eating carbs and sugar if I was diagnosed with cancer. I mean, that’s a no brainer, right?"
